Shangh's Comprehensive Plan for Elderly Care Innovation
To address the challenges posed by its aging population, Shangh has launched a comprehensive action plan med at revolutionizing elderly care services through technological advancements. The city plans to use robots, and smart solutions to enhance the quality of life for seniors and emerge as a global leader in innovation and industrial development in elderly care by 2027.
The plan includes several key initiatives such as establishing an Elderly Care Technology Industrial Park, pioneering incubators, enterprise innovation hubs, and research platforms. It focuses on nurturing leading enterprises, creating demonstration sites f products, and deploying these innovations to meet diverse needs across different age groups.
Specifically, the city integratetechnology into elderly care services by developingand algorithms that enable voice, facial, emotion, motion recognition, and environmental perception. The goal is to enhance autonomous perception, learning, decision-making, and execution capabilities of elderly care products through advancements in embodied intelligence and generative .
A range of products are being prioritized for development including life assistance tools, health services, rehabilitation ds, among which robots play a crucial role. Different types of robots such as rehabilitation robots, exoskeletons, nursing robots, and companion robots will be developed to cater to specific needs in elderly care settings.
The plan also highlights the importance of emotional engagement and warmth provided by robots for the elderly. By integrating emotional intelligence into design features, these robots are expected to contribute significantly towards alleviating shortages in elderly care staffing in China.
Several initiatives have already been launched to integrate intelligent robots in various sectors related to elderly care. The National Development and Reform Commission and other departments issued guidelines on expanding the capabilities of intelligent robots across industries including elderly care on June 24th.
At the World Conference in 2024, researchers from Fudan University showcased Guanghua No.1, an advanced eldercare robot that exhibits notable improvements in assisting the elderly and displaying emotional responsiveness.
Gan Zhongxue, Deputy Dean of the Academy for Engineering and Technology at Fudan University, highlighted the importance of emotional intelligence in providing genuine care to seniors.
In addition to promoting technological innovation, the plan also emphasizes fostering a supportive ecosystem for industry growth by encouraging enterprise development, establishing high-quality incubators, nurturing industry clusters, and strengthening standard systems.
Support will be provided to indepently developed elderly care technology products, and insurance coverage options will be explored as well. The goal is not only to accelerate the adoption of smart aging solutions but also ensure seamless integration across different elderly care products.
By doing so, Shangh revolutionize elderly care services using advanced technologies while addressing critical challenges posed by its aging population.
